A Letter from the Author
I am so glad my new book Not By a Long Shot is out! This one was such a pleasure to write and just like my last two books, it's also very personal. There's a whole lot of me in this one, more than in 'Some Like 'em Thick' but not quite as much as 'It's All Right...Now.' You're going to read about how Natasha Williams, a woman who runs a successful business and is newly married to the wonderful Sharif, can't seem to be satisfied with what she has and keeps going back and forth between him and her ex, Davion. There's something to be said for closure and Natasha never got hers with Davion, hence her inability to leave the past in the past.
It is always my quest to create characters you can relate to, so let me know what you think of Natasha, Sharif, and Davion and what each of them have to go through because of one bad decision. Feel free to hit me up on Twitter @JessicaLTerry or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/authorjessicaterry. I'd love to hear from you and keep your eyes out for more from me!
There is nothing like seeing other people enjoying something you created; that's the feeling I get when I see people walking around with one of my books or discussing it with their friends. "Some Like 'em Thick" was a very personal story that I really, really enjoyed writing; its probably the shortest time I've completed a novel in. I pulled many all-nighters on that one. And I'm glad its been received so well thus far; it's a very relatable story with characters that are familiar to most women. That's what I do when I write; I try to make it so you can picture it as you read it. It just makes the reading experience better, I think.
And I've been getting a lot of questions about whether or not there would be a sequel, and I've been on the fence about it because I thought the story had pretty much been told and I should just leave Salvatrice, Oasis, and Irie to their happy endings. But I'm thinking there are more aspects I can explore and more places I can take them, so I've decided you will see these characters again. I've already started jotting down some preliminary notes for it...I"m already looking forward to writing this one!
The next book that's coming out, "Its All Right...Now", is probably going to surprise a lot of people that know me really well, as the first one did. This one is a story about betrayal in marriage and what can happen when you've just had enoughÉthis one was an enjoyable one to write, as well, though collectively it really took years to complete. Its actually kind of loosely based on a true story and I'm really excited for it to come out; it has slightly more edge to it than "Some Like 'em Thick" but it still deals with issues that a lot of women who have been married can relate to. And just like in SLET, men can read it and enjoy it without having to worry about getting bashed or anything like that. Both books are very man-friendly and men can actually relate to them too, especially "Its All Right...Now", which are written both from the men and the women's perspectives. Its fun writing from a male point of view; I can step outside of myself and be somebody else completely different. That's always a good thing when creating.
As with all my books, I aim to entertain as well as thought provoke; I want to make you think. What would you do in those situations? If you happen to be in those situations now, how different are your reactions from those of the characters? Think about it.
Well, it's late and I need to be up in a few hours...go get "Some Like 'em Thick" if you don't have it already, and look for "Its All Right...Now" to be out soon. Spread the word with people if you're feeling the books; let's get them out there! And as always, thank you so much for your continued support; you make what I do even more enjoyable than it already is!
